Optimizing Space - SPARE to the TOP

Removing the bulky Starlink from our roof rack has opened up a world of possibilities for our vehicle’s storage. With that giant satellite dish out of the way, we finally had the opportunity to secure our spare tire up top, a decision that has not only freed up a significant amount of trunk space but also transformed how we organize our gear.

Before the removal, the round, bulky shape of the spare tire made it nearly impossible to pack the trunk in any orderly manner. Items would tumble and shift during our travels, making it frustrating to find essentials when we needed them. But with the Starlink gone, we were able to reposition the spare tire on the roof rack, allowing for a much more organized trunk setup.

Michael, our CFO, took charge of securing the spare tire. Using a tri-band connector, he ensured it was tightly fastened to the roof rack, leaving no room for concern about it shifting during our travels. Later, I added an extra layer of security by using Hila’s ( My daugter) old bicycle chain to attach the spare to the carrier. With this added precaution, we felt confident that our spare was secure and ready for any unforeseen circumstances.

Initially, I was apprehensive about the potential increase in wind noise from having the spare tire protruding slightly from the roof. To my surprise, however, the noise was not only manageable but actually lower than beforeI! This pleasant outcome made our rides more enjoyable, proving that sometimes, changes can lead to unexpected benefits.

In the end, not only did we optimize our vehicle’s storage, but we also found a creative solution that enhanced our travel experience.
