DAY 3 - Ring of Fire Eclipse: Capturing the Spectacle of the Sub's Solar Phenomenon and more

RING OF FIRE -

ECLIPSE

It was nice to wake up a bit late and not have anywhere to go early in the morning.

The eclipse starts at 10:50 in the morning and I chose the perfect location to view the eclipse on a small country road in the middle of nowhere but in the best possible viewpoint.

After a good breakfast consisting of four slices of toast and butter, I packed up the car and headed out to this remote patch of road

With 30 minutes to spare I had plenty time to configure the phone camera with protective lens and perform multiple tests to make sure the pictures will work

It worked out great as I got to sit in the air conditioned vehicle take pictures of the eclipse during the almost 90 minutes and once in a while got outside to view with my own eyes.

We captured the ring of fire effect I packed up the car again and continued on today's journey.

WALDRIP BRIDGE

Our first stop was Waldrip bridge which required travel on a very dusty gravel road for about 8 miles.

It's a good thing I was the only car around because the amount of dust & smoke I left behind would have been intolerable for any other vehicle.

The bridge itself was a very nice as was the Colorado River it crossed.

Regency Bridge

From there we headed out to Regency bridge also crossing the Colorado River. Dang – that river is mighty long!!

This bridge was a suspension bridge and was absolutely stunning.

Both of these bridges are located in extremely remote areas and require a lot of driving on loose gravel dirt roads. There were absolutely no other cars or people around. God thing “DEXTER” doesn’t know about these places.

If I wasn't in a hurry to get home, I would just park the car in the middle of the bridge, set up a picnic table and had some coffee and lunch.

Moving forward, I had two choices. First was go back about 8 miles on the gravel road I came from OR to go forward 14 miles on a looser gravel road, to the next normal paved road and you can guess which I chose right? (This is why STEELE hates me sometimes)

Besides kicking up a lot of dust these smaller dirt roads are absolutely beautiful and so close to nature. Many times you can see a bambi, porcupine, coyote or other small animals.

Terril Vintage Car Museum (NOT)

My next stop was another vintage car museum in a city called Terrill, but the GPS said I would get there at 3:51 p.m. and they close at 4:00 p.m. – that would have been cutting it kinda short.

Ronit and I both tried calling to confirm that they will remain open until 4:00 p.m. but it seems the line is either out of order or always busy so I decided to skip the museum and try and make it home on time for dinner with some close friends.

Traffic was extremely heavy but I managed to meet Ronit for dinner at our friends and I was only 15 minutes late.
