Day 1 - Late exit to Rush Hour Traffic

Pull the Trigger

Today, I finally pulled the trigger and left for my Northeast Canada trip, which includes a visit to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and exploring the beautiful Newfoundland.

Departure

Not sure why it was so hard to leave for this trip, but it definitely felt different from my previous journeys. Thankfully, my wife, Ronit, gave me that little push to get out of the house, so here I am, on the road again!

Traffic Troubles

I left pretty late, right into peak rush hour traffic. Those who know where I live and where I work, the most traffic I encounter is a school bus on my 1.2 mile commute. Today however, the first 90 minutes were bumper to bumper from my home in Richardson all the way past Royse City on I-30 East. Tip: If you can avoid I-30 East from the Dallas area to about 50 miles out, definitely do so!

Left at 4:42PM - not the "best" departure choice of time

Cruising at 61 MPH

Fuel Efficiency Surprise

Before I left, I filled up my tank, and the computer showed I had a range of 330 miles. However, since I was driving very slowly, even when the highways opened up, I cruised at 60 mph instead of 75, just enjoying the ride. To my surprise, the car seemed to really enjoy it too; the computer kept showing higher and higher numbers instead of lower and lower. My gas range actually increased from 330 miles all the way up to 395 miles, and that was after driving 160 miles to where I "camped" for the night at a hotel, of course.

After 162 miles of driving - guage shows we have 393 miles left !!!

Travel Plans

Since we don’t have that many days, and most of the trip will focus on Northeast Canada, I’m racing to reach Nova Scotia as quickly as possible. This means we won’t be doing a lot of sightseeing along the way. As you all know, I rarely travel via interstates, but in order to make up time and get to Nova Scotia within the next four days, I’m going to stick to the interstates and just push the pedal to the metal. So do not expect any major news during the next 4 days ( Although... you never know)

Tomorrow’s Journey

I’m going to sign off for now. Good night, everyone! I plan to get a good night’s sleep and head out at 6:00 a.m. with the goal of doing a 13-hour drive. Let’s see how far I can get tomorrow!

Stay tuned for more updates on the journey!
